My addiction to biryani




I think there are many people like me who are too much addicted to biryani. I have tried biryani almost every city where I went for a few minutes. This list includes Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Shimla, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra, Goa, Ahmedabad, Lonavala, Nashik and many more cities across the India.

    1. As an Iraqi I grew up on Arab and Persian food and so my love for rice cooked with meats, onions and pulses is as given as the sun rising in the east every morning. Although middle eastern cooking often finds rice with things such as pine nuts, vermicelli, lima beans, dill, dried barberries etc, my transition into biryani was smooth and easy.

      I went through a phase of cooking chicken biryani every week after watching the VahChef recipe for it, although I steam the rice mix with a towel under the lid, rather than using dum.

      Nowadays I am trying to reduce meat consumption so I try to go for vegetable biryani (though I believe this technically pilau since the rice is not being steamed separately, no?)

  1. Same! I strongly recommend Dindigul style biriyani if you haven’t tried it already. It is very different from the usual Lucknow/Hyderabadi styles but it is really unique!

    1. My family is totally crazy about Biryani .. the one dish that everyone would eat without any fuss . Do you have any recipes for Dindigul style Biryani ?
